Wrington Redhill v Cutters Friday
Wrington welcomed ‘Cutters Friday’ to ‘The Rec’ this Saturday. The game kicked off on a ‘sticky pitch’ and the home team started well. The ball was being moved well throughout the team and while no clear chances were created the home team dominated the first 20 minutes.
The game moved into the second quarter of the game and on 28 minutes the Cutters left midfielder drove a shot towards goal, Gary Clarke, who was making his debut in the Wrington goal, could only manage to parry the shot in the box where it was met by the ‘Cutters’ forward who tapped the ball in from close range. 0-1
Moments later the Cutters forward broke through on goal striking a shot bound for the top corner until Clarke made a flying save pushing the ball over the bar. Cutters were now in the ascendency with Wrington beginning to misplace passes and lose some of their earlier excellent movement.
The ‘Cutters’ central midfield pair were playing well and stretching the game through their quick left winger.
On 38 minutes the best chance of the game so far for Wrington fell to Jason Eaton. The ball was crossed from the right and following a challenge in the box the loose ball fell to Eaton 8 yards out. Eaton struck a fierce right footed shot that well blocked by the ‘Cutters’ keeper. HT 0-1
The second half kicked off and ‘Cutters’ continued to move the ball well. As the game wore on however Wrington began to get back into the game. On 60 minutes an excellent cross from Rory Thomas was met by the flying Chris Bradley who headed straight into the Keepers hands. As Wrington pressed for the equaliser gaps opened in the Wrington defence and only a spectacular double save from Clarke in the Wrington goal kept the home team in the game.
With 15 minutes to go Manager Smith threw on club captain Graham Cheeseman.
On 82 minutes a long ball broke the Wrington defence and Chris Holland was force to pull down the ‘Cutters’ forward. The referee deciding their was cover only booked the Wrington Centre back.
The game moved into the last few minutes when Sam Johnson correctly attempted to play out from deep in his own half. Johnson was robbed of the ball which was squared and finished off by the Cutters forward from six yards out. FT 0-2
A disappointing game from the home teams perspective with few real chances being created.
As Manager Smith put it. ‘We are a bit of a Jackyll and Hyde side at the moment. The next couple of games are important for us and I want the team back to playing their best football’
MOTM :- Gary Clarke – Excellent home debut keeping the team in the game with several fine saves.
