Wrington Redhill were left bewildered at quite how this scoreline came about, poor defending let them down for sure but failure to take a series of very good chances was equally frustrating. Shirehampton deservedly took the lead on 16minutes when Dan Marne outmuscled Chris Bradley to score past Mat Hill in goal for Wrington. The home side went 2 up soon after when Scott Bamford beat the offside trap and rounded Hill to score. The visitors soon had chance to reduce the deficit when Waugh’s crops found Jake Horton unmarked at the far post but his header hit the upright and when the rebound fell to him he blazed over. Soon after some clever passing in midfield put Wrington Redhill’s Raphael Waugh through on goal but his powerful shot was just wide. Shirehampton went 3 up just before half time when Joe Harvey’s shot from the edge of the box found the top corner of the net with Hill rooted to the spot.
The visitors started the 2nd half brightly with O’Connor, on for the injured Horton, Waugh and Callum Vickery all running and tricking their way through the home defence but there was no end product. Shirehampton however took the wind out of their sails on 55 minutes when Marne converted Harvey’s cross to make it 4 nil. Still Wrington we’re probing and pushing with O’Connor heading wide when we’ll placed and a goal bound effort from Vickery striking his own player near the line. Harvey made it 5 nil for Shirehampton with a 25 yard blast into the top corner. Wrington Redhill did eventually score the goal they’d been threatening all afternoon when Sam Clarke, playing a lively cameo role from the bench, lobbed goalkeeper Winkler from outside the box.
If manager Cheeseman is looking for positives to take from what happened here it must be the way that Sam Clarke shaped up in the short time he was on. He has decided to play again after some time away from the game and certainly looked lively when he came on.
