Wrington Redhill 1 Middlezoy reserves 5
First Division Cup
Wrington Redhill came into this game on the back of good performance and win against Keynsham Town reserves the previous week and were hoping to continue the good form.
As the game started on this sunny afternoon in Somerset things seemed to be going to plan with 16yr old Goalkeeper Harvey Campbell, who was making his debut for the home team enjoying a quiet time in the warm conditions. Wrington Redhill really dominated the 1st 10 minutes but had nothing to show for it.
Middlezoy then scored from their first attack when a cross from the right rolled into the path of Will Andrews who crashed in home from close range. Their second attack brought a goal for Adam Long when a deep cross was headed back across the goal mouth by Leo James into his path to side foot home. Soon after James made it 3 whens Williams squared the ball back to him to thump past Campbell from 8 yards. 3 Goals in ten minutes had Wrington Redhill on the ropes with young keeper Campbell completely faultless. They now attempted to compose themselves in an attempt to remain in the game. Sadly despite every effort it got worse when a underhit back pass from Jenson Backhouse left the goal keeper little time and his attempted clearance was charged down by striker Andrews and the rebound somehow ended up in the back of the net .
Half time. 0 – 4
The second half got underway and the Wrington Redhill boys were playing for pride alone. Even at 4 nil down credit must go to them for their attitude and work rate.
They even suffered another goal against them, which had a suspicion of hand ball about it, the linesman did let the referee know but the ref gave the goal anyway-This did not stop the boys from putting everything into the game.
As the 2nd half was being played out it was Wrington Redhill who were starting to create some chances, A Cross from Cam Milkins found its way to Josh Pilling who couldn’t direct his header into the net, Harrison Campbell was unlucky with two efforts, the first well saved by visiting keeper Ash Hutchings and his second hitting defender Graham who knew nothing about it.
Skipper Harding James also went close with a towering header, Wrington Redhill did get the goal they so deserved when a cross landed at the feet of Jack Hutchings who calmly slotted home, A consolation to say the least but one that was richly deserved.
