Wrington Redhill 2 Middlezoy Rovers reserves 0

Having suffered a heavy defeat to today’s opponents only a week ago Wrington Redhill knew a big improvement was needed but with the return of some key players they were quietly confident. Things went badly askew after 10 minutes when Sam Fletcher fell and broke his collar bone and had to be  replaced by Josh Pilling. After a fairly even start the first real chance fell to Middlezoy when a difficult take for home keeper Rob Hannah was spilled to striker Andrews whose goal-bound shot was miraculously blocked by skipper Harding James. After a period of prolonged pressure the deadlock was broken when the home side took the lead from a corner. Dan Berry’s run to the front post allowed him space to leap and glance a header firmly past keeper Ash Hutchings and into the top corner. They thought they’d gone 2 up when the ever lively Harrison Campbell found the ball at his feet from a deflected shot and slotted it past Hutchings only to be ruled out for offside.
Half time 1 – 0
The 2nd half started with renewed determination from the visitors but the Wrington Redhill back line stood firm. For a while it was end to end and Wrington Redhill had Berry to thank for a goaline clearance prevented Adam Long from equalising. With Jake Marshman pulling the strings in midfield it was Wrington Redhill who looked more likely to score and Jones, Hutchings and Campbell all had decent efforts saved by Ash Hutchings the Middlezoy keeper. 1 became 2 when Cam Mlkims fed Hutchings and his right foot shot was saved by his namesake in goal for Middlezoy who just managed to push it around the post.. The resulting corner was cleverly whipped into Wrington Redhill’s Hutchings whose sweet right foot shot gave Middlezoy’s Hutchings no chance. This competitive game finished as a deserved 2 nil win to the hosts.
The game was refereed superbly by the no nonsense Andy Murphy whose firm hand kept a lid on this feisty affair. The game finished without a single card handed out which is a testament to everyone taking part.
