Westfield FC 1 Wrington Redhill 0
Wrington Redhill started their Somerset County League programme away to Westfiled FC who had dropped down from the Premier division for the current campaign. On a blistering hot day and very firm and dry pitch Wrington Redhill quickly got into their stride playing a high tempo game with plenty of good football despite the heat.
The first half was virtually one way traffic as numerous scoring chances were carved out but final conversion into goals eluding the visitors with five really good openings spurned. Even a cast iron penalty for a handball infringement by a Westfield defender was rejected by the unsighted referee.
The midfield three of Ollie Clements, Sam Parkinson and Rory Thomas had a full grip on proceedings allowing full backs Jordan Bonner and Chris Holland to ventured forward and both missing out on finding the net. With Jack Hutchings, Joe Creese and Reece Ferguson-Obamwonyi also spurning good chances somehjow the scoreline was 0-0 at the half time break.
The second period continued in the same vein with the lively Ferguson-Obamwonyi causing the home defence continuous problems but somehow they held out with excellent support from their keeper Billy Barter in good form. Creese and Hutchings wre unable to convert more chances that fell their way the nearest to a goal came when Hutchings shot was trickling to the goal line to be cleared at the last second by a desperate defender.
Leigh White and Ethan Johnson looked very comfortable at the heart of Wrington Redhill’s defence and keeper Matt Hill was not really troubled. With tiring legs as the game approached its latter stages Ethan Williams replaced Thomas in midfield and 17 years old Luke Baggaley made his first appearance for the Club replacing Holland and acquitted himself well and also had an effort wide of a post.
Despite total dominance of the game in the 89th minute Westfield’s only shot at goal ended up in the back of the net from a 25 yards speculative shot from 25 yards fromSam Millard for the biggest steal of three points you are likely to see all season
