Green Brace sends locking top and Wrington bottom.

A well taken brace of goals from Chris Green saw Locking Park join Portishead Caledonian at the top of W and D div 1. It was the same old story for Wrington reserves who competed well but now slip to the bottom of the table as Portishead beat KVFC 4 nil. Buoyed by the return of Dutch Holland and Joe Moore after fine displays for the first team, Wrington started well but with Tommy Johnson unable to make the start, lacked a cutting edge. James Williams pulled off a world class save from a point blank Ryan Harris header and the home side became a little frustrated.
However, the same old failing of trying to play too much football and giving the ball away cheaply, led to a breakaway. A powerful snap shot brought out another good save from Williams only for Harris to score on the rebound. Before Wrington could settle again, three similar breakaways which saw Locking players slalom their way past defenders far too easily sealed the match with goals for Aiden Dancer and the two for Green.

Once again at half time Wrington were left wondering how on earth they were four down. It looked like turning ugly but the introduction of Johnson gave the visitors a real threat and they showed great character to get back into the game. A quick throw saw Faulkner link with Johnson who made it to the deadball line before cutting back to the determined Joe Moore who slotted home. They went close again from a corner when Holland headed narrowly over. With Briggs and Clark solid in defence and Curtis giving width on the left, Wrington grew into the game and Briggs set up Johnson for a well deserved goal. Winning the second half against a top side 2 nil, certainly won back some pride… But unfortunately no points.

Wrington continue to juggle a large squad of players and try to play good football but it’s not necessarily what you need in a relegation dog fight. They now travel to KVFC before the Christmas break and are desperate for a win to give them some hope into the New Year.
