Wrington Redhill 0 – Stockwood Green 1

In their last home game of the season Wrington Redhill put up a good fight against visitors Stockwood Green despite going down by one goal. They got off to a good start and in the opening minutes Ben Griffiths found Leigh White who fired just wide of goal. The conditions were affected by very strong winds but both sides sought to play on the ground as much as possible and in the circumstances produced an entertaining game.

For Stockwood Lee Millard shot wide across goal and Dan Barwood hit the net but his effort was ruled offside. The hosts the won a series of corners and Ollie Clements saw his effort cleared off the line and Adam Caulfield just missed connecting on another from Jake White. Matt Hill was coping with any threats in his goal area and Mike Rowcliffe was commanding at the heart of defence. Towards the end of the half Joe Creese fired over from a Rory Thomas cross and Rowcliffe came very close with a header towards goal.

It was pre3tty much the same in the second half with Wrington Redhill launching many attacks with Leigh White, Ben Griffiths and Jake White in control of the midfield area. Ethan Williams was battling away leading the attack but as has been the story of the season converting good play into goalshas been the team’s Achilles heel and it was the same again in this match. It continued in this way when a corner from Jake White was cleared to Leigh White and ‘keeper Tom Reid did well to keep out his wind assisted lobbed effort. Another Rowcliffe effort went over the bar from Clements’ corner.

A long clearance was picked up by Jake James deep in the Wrington Redhill half and he stayed cool and lobbed the ball over the advancing Hill to take a 1-0 lead against the run of play.

All credit to the home side who kept plugging away for a well deserved equaliser but the nearest they came was at the death when Adam Caulfield headed another Rory Thomas cross wide.
