Hi Wrington Redhill 3 Clevedon Town Under18s 1
It was great after such a long break to see some football played back on our own pitch as Leigh White’s team continued their preseason preparations in style. Clevedon Town’s skilful academy team were all comfortable on the ball and moved it around the pitch very quickly firing in several early crosses for goalkeeper Paul Faulkner to deal with. Skipper Ethan Johnson looks to be forming a good partnership with new signing Dan Ferguson in central defence and veterans Whitey and Bradders were soon rolling back the years in midfield. More good news is that Si Hewish has now completed 2 games without any reaction to the groin strain that had been causing problems. Joe Crease was his usual lively self and a miss timed tackle on him lead to the first of 3 penalties in quick succession. Up stepped Ollie Clements to calmly stroke the penalty in to open the scoring. Soon after that Ollie was involved in another penalty, this time his timing was off and the Clevedon centre forward went sprawling. Faulkner had no chance with the well struck penalty into the bottom corner. Ollie had chance to shine again when Reece Ferguson was brought down in the box after a clever turn with the ball at his feet. Up steps Ollie to smash the ball into the roof of the net.
Half time 2 – 1
Manager White made several changes at half time but the team continued to play with the same rhythm and purpose. The goal that made it 3 – 1 is definitely a contender for goal of the season.(if only we had one!) The ball was played out from the back and after a great exchange of passes between Williams, Crease and Reece Ferguson the ball was rolled into the path of White who crashed it into the top corner from 20 yards giving the goalkeeper no chance. A successful practice game was marred slightly when Clevedon midfielder Biggs was accidentally bundled over and fell awkwardly dislocating his shoulder. Best wishes go to him from all at our club. Man of the match must go to Reece Ferguson O who impressed throughout.
