Banwell 3 Wrington Redhill 3

Wrington Redhill’s latest preseason fixture was a short journey to neighbours Banwell and a very competitive and enjoyable game ensued. Both teams were able to utilise their playing squads in the build up to the forthcoming league programme.

Wrington Redhill started poorly in the first fifteen minutes with the hosts pressingstrongly and quicker to the bal. After this period, they got into their stride and served up some excellent free flowing passing football between the penalty areas with dominant midfielders Sam Parkinson, Corey Thomas-Barker and Ollie Clements at the fore.

It is disappointing that goals continue to be conceded and defensive work is still required to tighten up this area, but many chances are being created going forward and this was reflected in the final 3-3 score line. Wrington Redhill had to seek equalisers on three occasions in this game.

The goals came from Ethan Williams following good inter passing and jinking in from the left unleashed a right footed stunner into the corner of the net. Jack Hutchings continued his good form with a brace. His excellent quick feet saw him react from a strong tackle ending one on one with the home keeper and he coolly slotted in. Hutchings second goal came from the penalty spot after being brought down in the area. He confidently placed the ball to the right of the keeper, the goal equalising for the 3-3 final score.

There were other chances worthy of mention, an early strike from distance from Reece Ferguson-Obamwonyi, Corey Thomas-Barker header from a corner cleared off the line, Sam Parkinson striking the inside of a post and remarkably the ball spun and came back in play and Rory Thomas delivering a superb cross into the box with Leigh White’s header crashing against the crossbar and Dan Ferguson blasting the rebound just over.

With numerous changes in the second half this allowed the whole squad to get time on the field in more preparation for the season ahead.
