Congresbury 3 Wrington Redhill 3
Wrington Redhill came into this game full of confidence after last weeks win against Ashton & Backwell, and this match against current league leaders Congresbury Fc was another tough challenge for the Wrington Redhill players.
As the match started Wrington Redhill’s confidence was clear to see, they were playing some wonderful football all over the pitch and the away team were in complete control, or so it would seem!
The visitors did everything but score in the opening exchanges, and quite often in games it’s the team who have been under the most pressure score the opening goal, and, true to form, it was Congresbury who took the lead midway through the first half, a clearance from the home teams defence was latched onto by the Congresbury striker coupled with a bit of indecisiveness from the Wrington Redhill keeper saw the home team take the lead. Congresbury FC 1-0 Wrington Redhill.
This minor setback did not deter Wrington Redhill in their quest for 3 Pts, as a minute later it was 1-1, another ball over the top found the energetic Jake Marshman who calmy went through and scored by taking the ball around the goalkeeper to slot home Congresbury FC 1-1 Wrington Redhill.
The remainder of the first half saw Congresbury grow into the game and were starting to pose a threat going forward but the visitors defence held out.
Half Time – Congresbury FC 1-1 Wrington Redhill
The second half got underway, and it was Congresbury who re-took the lead, a cross come shot from the right winger manged to elude everyone and it looped into the back of the net off the far post. Congresbury 2-1 Wrington Redhill.
Again, this did not stop Wrington Redhill’s determination to press forward and try and get another equaliser, unfortunately for the away team they lost 2 of their attacking players through injury, Luke Weeks with a nasty knee injury which unfortunately will keep him sidelined for a while and Harrison Campbell ended up having the Congresbury right backs stud marks down his shins.
These setbacks did not affect Wrington Redhill’s determination to keep going with their relentless press and high energy football, and their hard work paid off with sub-Chris Jones grabbing his first goal of the season and a much-deserved equaliser for the away team. Congresbury 2-2 Wrington Redhill.
As the game was entering its final stages, the lively Congresbury striker was causing a few problems, and it was his run into to box that saw the home team award a penalty, there was minimal contact on the forward but enough to see the referee point to the spot.
The home team were in the lead again, the penalty was converted giving the Wrington Redhill keeper no chance.
The game was entering its final moments and Wrington Redhill were in search of an equaliser, and they got it!
Fellow sub-Kris Bell raced through to slot home a much-deserved equaliser, grabbing his first goal for the club.
A fantastic team effort from Wrington Redhill and a very entertaining game for the wonderful support from both teams.
Today’s supporter’s player of the match goes to …………………Cam Milkins-Non-stop running, leadership, selfless, 2 assists. Fantastic performance from our midfield dynamo.
