Winscombe 1 Wrington Redhill 1
Following on from the superb hard-fought victory against the league leaders, the reward was another tough local derby against Winscombe midweek and then followed days later with the arrival of Brislington to the Recreation Field. The squad pack was in full use as the management team of Leigh White, Mark Brown and Sam Clements had to shuffle around, considering injuries and availability.
For the Winscombe game Sam Parkinson had work commitments and Jordon Bonner still not ready to return from injury and Cory Thomas-Barker serving his last game suspension. It was good to see Reece Ferguson-Obamwonyi in attendance and may be involved in the remaining fixtures in his recovery from long term injury.
This fixture is always a tight affair and this one was no different with both sets of players fully up for the challenge. Both teams had their good spells although there were few real scoring chances created. The contrast in styles was evident as the home sides’ danger came from set pieces whereas Wrington Redhill’s open play movements were seeking to create openings.
The Redskins took the lead in the second half after starting quicker and stringing some passes together with George Fake and Jack Hutchings getting more service. Josh Pitts was his usual busy self and jinked his way past his marker and keeper Daniel Bullock and fired into the net just inside the upright. There was some confusion at first as the ball had struck the boundary fencing which is very close to the back of goal net and rebounded out with some mistakenly thinking the strike had hit the post. After consultation, the referee was satisfied the ball had crossed the line and rebounded back so the goal stood and Wrington Redhill were ahead.
However, Wrington Redhill had to settle for one point from the game as Winscombe levelled when a free kick was headed by Ernest Gorka past James Williams and a fair result overall.
