Both sides were anxious to get off to good start to the new season following last years promotion to the top division.
Wrington began this game the livelier side kicking with the wind winning a succession of free kicks and after 11 minutes a scramble in the Broad Plain goalmouth saw 3 frantic goal bound attempts by Wrington only to be denied by the agile home keeper Dullara along with a number of his defenders.
After 17 minutes a slick Broad Plain move saw Thorley combine with skipper Picton whose neat back heel found last seasons top scorer Aaron Selby only for him to direct the ball wide of the advancing Ben Dancey.
On 24 minutes the deadlock was broken by the away side when a Michael Rowcliffe free kick from right midfield found the head of Graham Cheeseman who headed home with interest to make it 0.1 to the away side. Both sides then continued to have chances which they failed to convert and Wrington went in at half time one up, in truth they should have extended their lead.
Half time 0.1
The second half belonged to Broad Plain with Picton hitting the post and creating chances from midfield. Chris Bradley playing an enforced role out of position as sweeper in the Wrington defence was forced to clear off the line twice in one move from another home team attack. After 81 minutes and having the majority of the spoils the home pressure paid off when following a throw in and cross Ollie Gosling rose to head home the equaliser. Broad Plain then pushed forward and finished the stronger with Wrington defending resolutely to secure an away point.
Full time 1.1.
Both sides will go away pleased with a point to kick start their season, plenty for the managers to think on but all in all the traditional game of two halves and an entertaining display.
