Somerton Town 5 Wrington Redhill 0

Wrington Redhill came crashing back down to earth after last week’s fine victory. The game was evenly contested in the 1st half until Somerton took the lead from a long throw. There didn’t appear to be much danger but, as 3 defenders hesitated, Somerton’s lively striker Rob Haggett nipped between them to slot the ball past James Williams in goal. A last ditch block from skipper Ethan Johnson and a one  on one save by keeper Williams kept the score line close but Wrington Redhill created plenty of chances of their own. Firstly a Reece Ferguson Obynwany’s cross from the right deflected off a defender and crashed against the post with the keeper beaten. Then clever cross from Simon Hewish left Ethan Williams with only the keeper to beat but his header seemed to come off him shoulder and popped up weakly for the keeper to gather comfortably. Later a cross from the lively George Fake was headed back across goal by player manager Leigh White to Williams who’s clever flick was brilliantly saved by the home keeper.
Despite a fine 1st half display from Wrington Redhill the 2nd half was to become a bit of a one sided affair and was only 10 minutes old when Somerton went 2 up. Dave Meadon  was given time and space on the right to-turn and bend his shot in off the far post leaving keeper Williams stranded. As the visitors chased the game it soon became 3 and then 4 with goals from Tom Haggett and a 2nd for his brother Rob. Wrington Redhill kept plodding away up the slope and almost scored when Fake ran onto a great through ball from Ollie Clements but his shot was smothered by Somerton’s advancing keeper who was having a fine afternoon. But then, with only minutes left to play, the visitors defence was opened up again when some free flowing football from Somerton resulted in Luke Thomas running onto a through ball and rifling it past Williams to make it 5.
Wrington Redhill’s home game against Wells City next Saturday can’t come quick enough for White’s team to redeem themselves.
