Wrington Redhill 0 – Winscombe 8
With the Recreation Field still not fully recovered from the wet weather this match was switched to the 3G facility at Bridgwater College to limit the backlog of fixtures. Clearly such a heavy defeat indicated that such pitches do not favour the team.
The first half was fairly even up to the half hour mark and indeed there were two very good scoring opportunities to take the lead squandered and may have led to a different game but this has been the story of the team in recent seasons. Winscombe scored in the 35th minutewhen a loose ball from a long range strike was poked over the line. A couple of minutes later another fierce strike found its way into the net for a half time 2-0 advantage to Winscombe.
It looked like an early recovery was possible when a free kick was won just outside of the opponent’s box and George Fake’s left footed strike whistled past a post. Winscombe then went on to scoring 6 more goals with clinical finishing helped by some dreadful defending and poor passing giving the ball away to often.
The players need to take a long hard look at their performances and buck their ideas up otherwise they are facing a long run in to the end of the season wondering where their next victory may come from.
