Wrington Redhill 1 Yatton & Cleeve Utd 4

This was a disappointing result and performance for Wrington & Redhill’s first home league fixture of the season especially following two emphatic recent away victories.

The home side got off to a dream start with Ryan Pugh bursting forward along the left flank and unleashing an unstoppable strike past Yatton’s ‘keeper Emrullah Kahya and taking an early 1-0 lead. Shortly after Callum Vickery had a shot smothered by Kahya and then the visitor’s Gareth Gallop struck wide of the mark.

Whilst Wrington Redhill were seeking to play a more passing game their opponents looked most dangerous on the counter attack with long balls out of defence and one such ball found Josh Gibbs who pounced and threaded the ball past Matt Hill for an equaliser. The home side continued to press forward but wayward final passes and control were letting them down in the final third of the pitch. From two free kicks from Vickery being dealt with by the defence the half came to a close at 1-1.

An effort by Simon Hewish after a run down the right touchline was collected easily by Kahya and shortly after a penalty was conceded and was dispatched into the net by James Bird for Yatton. Wrington Redhill tried to get back on terms and a cross into the box from Joe Creese was headed away for a corner and the resultant kick was again cleared to safety. The lead was extended further when Gibbs scored again from a counter attack and to seal the game substitute Owen Fox scored in a similar manner.

Late on the hosts pressed for some consolation but were unable to convert the chances created with the final score of 4-1 to Yatton & Cleeve.
