Wrington Redhill 3 Minehead 1
After a dip in fortune over the last few games it was important that Wrington Redhill got back on track in this match against a Minehead team with ambitions of their own. They almost went ahead in the very 1st minute when a marauding run and cross from the left by Jensen Holmes fell to Harrison Campbell on the edge of the box but his snap-shot hit the base of the post. Both teams struggled to keep the ball on this bone hard uneven surface. This especially affected the passing game Cam and Lew Milkins, Jake Marshman and Luke Weeks. Their skills normally entertain the home faithful, made up mostly of moaners, groaners, the baseborn and ne’er do wells😀. Things were pretty even through the first half with home keeper Rob Hannah mostly acting as sweeper behind a back line led by the impressive Josh Skuse. Half an hour in visiting keeper Nathan Sheehan raced out of his box in an attempt to head clear a bouncing through ball. His header was mistimed and went straight up in the air so he had to jump for it again, this time under challenge from Wrington’s Hutchings and his own centre half George Painter. The ball was only half cleared to Lew Milkins who skilfully volleyed home over everyone from 25yards. Sadly Sheehan landed badly and had to leave the pitch with a badly twisted ankle. Soon after it was Minehead on the attack when Stef Philip’s beat the offside trap down the right and crossed for Sam Jackson who’s low drive flew just wide. 1 up became 2 as half time approached when Weeks skinned his full back down the right and crossed for Jack Hutchings to celebrate his 100th game for the club with a deft volley over Waghorn, Minehead’s replacement keeper.
Half time 2 – 0
Minehead were back in it right at the start of the 2nd half when Jensen Holmes was dispossessed at left back by Mineheads Josh Elston. He steadied himself before crashing in a shot that Hannah looked to have but which somehow eventually crossed the line. 2 – 1 up now Wrington Redhill were still largely in control of the game but nothing was comfortable for them as Minehead battled hard for a share of the points. Cody Parslow replaced Holmes and he, along with Berry, Backhouse and Skuse looked assured in defence of the slender lead. Keeper Hannah doesn’t need a suit of armour or even a Habergeon with these guys in front of him.
Things became somewhat more comfortable with 10 minutes left when Cam Milkins beat 2 defenders on the left before he crossed to Weeks who laid it back for Hutchings to riffle home from the edge of the box. This 2 goal performance from Hutchings means he’s scored 70+ goals in his 100 games for the club, quite a return.
One more game now before the return of our skipper Connor Harding James. The lads have done well whilst he’s been away but we miss his leadership, something is missing, like tea with no milk or a faggot with no gravy!
Supporters Man of the Match Cody Parslow. Brought on when things were looking shaky and locked things down with his ‘road runner’ turn of speed.
