Good win over Sporting Weston

Wrington Redhill 2 Sporting Weston 1

What a battle this game was with 2 sides who know each other well going head to head in the league for the first time in a few years. It was the home team who got the first shot on goal when Luke Weeks put Jack Hutchings through on the right but his shot from a tight angle was well saved by Logan Coombs in goal for Sporting. At the other end Wrington Redhill’s keeper Rob Hannah was busy acting as a sweeper sprinting from his area to clear a series of through balls. The home side went 1 up as a shot from the left was half blocked and flew high in the air. As it dropped almost vertically Harrison Campbell (sponsored by Bristol Rewires) sprang high and out jumped Coombs to score with a header from close range. Wrington Redhill’s dependable full back Jensen Backhouse had to leave the field at his point to be replaced by Elliot Edwards and he and left back Tukunda Mutota (AKA Trev’ adscitious and new but essential today) were constantly tested by a lively Sporting front line. 10 minutes after the 1st goal Wrington Redhill went 2 up when Jack Hutchings fed Campbell and his shot from the left was parried by Coombs but fell to Jake Marshman (sponsored by Tintara16 Ltd) to side foot home from close range. Sporting were reeling from 2 quick goals and determined to put things right as a Sanyang through ball was just beyond the reach of Mutota putting the prolific Nathaniel Groom in on goal. Rob Hannah (sponsored by Tim Bush) Wrington Redhill’s goalkeeper flew off his line and tackled Groom as he was deciding which side of the goal to roll the ball into, to save a certain goal

Half time 2-0
The 2nd half saw Sporting with the lions share of possession as the home team’s injury list grew with some walking wounded still on the field. With the midfield of Cam Milkins, Jake Marshman and the tireless Josh Oliver overworked it was the backline organised as always by Connor Harding- James and Josh Skuse that kept the chances to a minimum. Long range efforts were largely off target high into the trees behind the goal meaning our residing jackdaws will need to nidificate again come springtime. It was a long ‘take the pressure off’ ball through to Campbell that caused a melee in the 2nd half . Campbell at full speed just got to the ball before Pinchbeck who clattered into him and sent him sprawling. The 2 got to their feet and squared up to each other which seemed to trigger a simmering frustration felt by all and at one point there must have been 12 or more players pushing and shoving each other. Referee Chris Han stood by calmly watching as things eventually cooled at which point he booked Campbell and Pinchbeck and sent off Luke Weeks to leave the home team down to 10 men for the remainder of the game. Wrington Redhill were forced to reform the team to defend deep leaving Campbell as a solivagant striker. Sporting Weston  did eventually pull one back when Johnson’s close range effort from a cross cannoned off the underside of the bar and was bundled over the line by Owen Denyer. As Wrington Redhill kicked off to restart the game the ref blew the whistle to end this fiery affair.
