Wrington Redhill 6 Ashcott 3
After 20 minutes with the score still at 0 – 0 nobody would have predicted a 6 – 3 festival of goals. It all started when the ever lively Harrison Campbell beat his full back and fired in a low cross from the right that was helped on by Jack Hutchings to Jake Marshman on the far post who side footed it home from close range. 1 became 2 soon after when Cam Milkins sent in a low hard cross from he right and Hutchings nipped in in front of the flat footed defenders to volley past Colin Macpherson in the Ashcott goal. The visitors had started confidently enough but with 2 goals out of the blue they looked bewildered especially after last week’s narrow defeat to table topping Congresbury, (next week’s visitors to the rec’).
Half time 2 – 0
The 2nd half was only minutes old when a long ball from home skipper Connor Harding-James was mis- judged by the Ashcott back line who could only help it on to Marshman who ran in and nicked the ball over Macpherson for a 3 nil lead. 10 minutes later 3 became 4 when keeper Macpherson went to pick up a through ball only for it to bobble and slip through his legs to Cam Milkins who couldn’t believe his luck as he rolled it into the unguarded net. Game over you’d be thinking surely now the fragile Ashcott defence would crumble and fade like an archipelago eroded by the relentless sea and their front line looking as dangerous as a eunuch at a hen party. Not so, there was plenty to come as Wrington Redhill gave away a needless free kick at left back which was taken quickly and crossed in for Rhys Wilson to nip in front of Skuse and head home past keeper Hannah. The normally solid home back line of Parslow, Skuse, Harding-James and Holmes were still cursing and blaming each other when, at the other end,a ball from LewMilkins into the Ashcott area caused panic and saw the unfortunate Macpherson volley it against his own defender and he could only watch in despair as it rebounded to Marshman to complete his hat trick. There was just time for Wrington Redhill to pick up their customary booking as Jack English said something the ref took exception to, we don’t know what was said but apparently it proves that he’s no Presbyterian minister! Soon after it was 6 -1 when substitutes Weeks and Bell combined nicely having just come on as Weeks beat his defender before rolling the ball into path of Bell to crash home. As Wrington Redhill breathed a sigh of relief Ashcott at least gave the scoreline a look of respectability as their skipper Lewis Townsend weighed with 2 late goals. The 1st a header from a cross from the right and the 2nd a well taken shot from the edge of the box into the corner of the net
