Defeat in the Last Minutes

Imperial 5 Wrington Redhill 4

Having never been behind in this game until the final minutes this was a hard one to take for Wrington Redhill. The grey day twas hardly turned Kaleidoscopic with Imperial in black and white and Wrington Redhill black and green but the game was anything but dull.
On a hard pitch in pouring rain on a breezy afternoon this scrappy match was full of chances at both ends. Luke Weeks and Jack Hutchings were combining well and causing problems and then Parslow could have put the visitors in front  but his close range volley flew high over the bar. Soon after a corner from the right was contested for by a group of defenders jumping with Connor Harding James then it dropped to Harrison Campbell (sponsored by Bristol Home Rewires) to prod home at the far post. Soon after Imperial drew level when Fin Davies pulled the ball back from the left into the path of Aaron Winward who smashed home the equaliser from close range.
Half time 1- 1
The half time team talk from Wrington Redhill stand in coach  Nick Hutchings must have been inspiring but hopefully not sapiosexual as they were on fire at the restart. They were out of the blocks and back in front almost straight a at when a clearance from Rob Hannah put Jake Marshman through on the right and his low hard cross found Campbell at the far post who did really well to control the ball and slip it under keeper Joe Harper into the net. Wrington Redhill’s Skuse and Berry were always busy on the left side of their back line as Imperial bombarded them with testing high balls. Just about the only one that wasn’t dealt with was bouncing and ricocheting around in their penalty box until the referee blew for hand ball and a penalty. Jake Simpkins strode up and confidently stroked the penalty home giving Hannah no chance. 2 all now and with Cam and Lew Milkins with Jake Marshman taking control of the midfield Wrington Redhill kicked in to another gear. Marshman created the next chance for Campbell to cleverly clip his shot past the advancing Harper and complete his hat trick. Soon after Marshman skinned his marker on the left and fired in a low cross that Parslow cushioned into the path of Jack Hutchings (sponsored by OES Electrical Supplies Ltd)to fire home and put the visitors 4 -2 up. What happened from then on in that last 15 minutes was surprising especially as Imperial’s Will Thomas was in the sin-bin for 10 of them. Wrington Redhill already had Ollie Hapgood on for Weeks and Elliot Edwards on for Marshman but they seemed to run out of steam. 1st Keegan Morgan got free on the right and pulled the ball back for Simpkins to fire home for 3-4 then soon after the visitors failed to clear and when Windward’s shot can back off the post it was Simpkins who pounced to complete his hat-trick. With both teams now going flat out for the winner it looked to be the visitors would nick it when a brilliant turn and cross from the from Campbell onto the head of Parslow and his bullet header hit keeper Harper and stayed out. Right at the end of the game Imperial’s ever lively Morgan stole it when he nicked the ball in his own half and ran the length of the pitch to fire past Hannah win a fine winner. Despite the Jingoism in our ranks the Wrington massive were quiet in the bar after the game.
