Fry Club 2 Wrington Redhill 1
This Senior Cup game had been switched from Wrington to Fry’s as the rec’ remains waterlogged. Wrington Redhill certainly gave a good account of themselves against a team from a higher division. The game started with Fry’s seeing the lion’s share of the ball and passing it around confidently but the visitors grew into the game as Max Smith, Cam Milkins, Josh Oliver and Jake Marshman started to take hold of midfield. Once again Josh Oliver is almost entelichey with periods of dominance mixed with quieter spells. The lively pair of Jaiden Morris and Jack Hutchings also kept the home team back line on their toes without really testing Callum Fry in goal for Fry’s. Fry Club went in front when a long clearance from the goalkeeper was beautifully collect by Harry Hill who was then clean through and ran on to fire past goalkeeper Rob Hannah (sponsored by Tim Bush). Instead of folding and allowing Fry’s to control the game the visitors started to assert themselves and eventually equalised as half time approached. Jake Marshman won 3 tough challenges in a row before feeding Morris on the left. He skinned his full back before firing in a low cross as Jack Hutchings (sponsored by OES Electrical Supplies Ltd) got across his marker to fire in at the near post.
The 2nd half was a combative affair with the visiting back line of Weeks, Skuse, Harding-James and Elliot working their socks off to protect their goal. The linesman was also under pressure from the noisy home fans but from my eidetic memory I know he was right every time but not according to the terms gent Fry’s supporter to my left! It certainly wasn’t all one way traffic as at the other end Marshman nipped in to intercept a back pass but was forced wide by Callum Fry and his cross along the six yard box was hurriedly cleared by Turner. The home team winner came with 10 minutes remaining when from a free kick on the right Lew Talbot stole a yard on his marker at the front post to guide the ball past Hannah. A good effort by everyone at the home of a team from the premier division but the better team won….just
