Wrington Redhill 2 Westfield 1
On yet another blustery afternoon at the rec’ Wrington Redhill just came out on top after the 2nd meeting this season with Westfield. Having been in charge for most of the 1st half they has been restricted to long range efforts from centre halves Connor Harding-James and Josh Skuse which both sailed over the bar. Harrison Campbell was proving to be a handful for the Westfield back line and it was his ball into Jake Marshman that finally unlocked things for the home team. Marshman then cleverly fed Jack Hutchings who slid his angled shot under Billy Barter the advancing keeper. At 1 nil Wrington Redhill continued to have the lions share of the ball but just couldn’t find the quality pass to create more openings. It was somewhat against the run of play right on half time when a simple through ball from Westfield found Oliver Jones in space to rifle his shot past Rob Hannah into the roof of the net to make it 1 all . The home fans half time tea was poured with a jirble and a cursing of the new score line.
Half time 1 – 1
The 2nd half saw more of the same with Wrington Redhill looking the more likely to score. That said chances were few and far between, Marshman had a shot well saved whilst Holmes and Campbell were causing mayhem down the left but the final killer pass was not forthcoming. Marshman along with Cam and Lew Milkins were doing their best to dominate the midfield as they so often do but much of the passing was long balls missing them out completely. This was not a game the Wrington Redhill deipnososophonists would spend long on. Eventually a cross from the left was only have cleared to Cam Milkins just inside the box and his shot found the bottom corner with keeper Barter largely unsighted. 2 – 1 up with 10 minutes left somehow lead to Westfield dominating and the home side scrapping for the win. The Wrington Redhill back 4 of Jensen Backhouse, Skuse, Harding-James and Holmes had looked untroubled all afternoon but it was all hands to the pump for the final 10 minutes. Especially memorable was a goal saving block- tackle by OllieHabgood on Allen that helped his side scramble to the final whistle as the crepuscular evening light seem d brighter than last weeks.
