Burnham Utd 0 Wrington Redhill 0
Wrington Redhill needed to avoid defeat against Burnham in this their last game of the season to finish 4th in the division. That’s exactly what they did but nobody can quite understand how this entertaining game finished without a goal. Early in the game Burnham’s prolific striker Curtis Bradshaw somehow snuck past Josh Skuse and Connor Harding-James but shot just wide. Soon after a miss-hit clearance from Rob Hannah in goal for the visitors was fed back into the box and Hannah was able to redeem himself with a fine save from Dillon Bitton’s shot. At the other end a Luke Weeks shot was parried by Burnham keeper Tom Edwards and rebounded to Cam Milkins but too quickly for him to keep his effort on target and it flew just over. Wrington Redhills’s full backs Ollie Habgood and Jensen Holmes both had fine games offering attacking options as well as working overtime at the back in support of Skuse and Harding-James to stay solid at the back.
The 2nd half was more of the same with Burnham having slightly the better of things but with Dan Berry and Cam and Lew Milkins working their socks off in midfield this fine game began to look suspiciously like a stalemate. With 20 minutes to go Wrington Redhills’s lively forward Kris Bell was forced off with an injury introducing Cody Parslow to the game. It was Parslow’s blistering pace down the right that almost broke the deadlock. He crossed for Jack Hutchings who controlled the ball well and jinked and tricked his way through but, as he was about to shoot a combination of centre-half Holley and keeper Edwards pounced and snuffed out the threat. Penalty? Yes if you’re from Wrington and no if you’re from Burnham but, more importantly no if you’re the referee! The game was played out with both teams still looking for the win.
