Wrington Redhill 0 Burnham Utd 2.
This was a close encounter between 2 good teams that could have gone either way that was essentially decided by some remarkable pieces of skill from the visitors striker Brookshaw and keeper Edwards.
The game was full of quality from the start with both sides clearly full of intent when, 10 minutes in, the ball sat up nicely for Jenson Holmes he smashed it perfectly and it looked it all the way until somehow Tom Edwards turned it onto the underside of the bar. Even then it dropped to the ever reliable Jack Hutchings who surprisingly hooked it just wide. Soon after Wrington Redhill once again thought they were going 1 up but a close range effort from Luke Weeks was saved miraculously by Edwards who tipped it around the post. Mid way through the half Burnham nearly took the lead when a shot from the edge of the box from Nathan Bishop cannoned down off the crossbar and was cleared by Dan Berry. Soon after that Burnham went in front, it was coming, as sure as the inclusion of transsexual in the dictionary, when a through ball from Harding beat the offside trap (just about) and ran perfectly to Curtis Bradshaw who beat Rob Hannah with a fierce shot from the edge of the box. Whist Wrington Redhill were still reeling from the unexpected blow they found themselves 2 down when Josh Skuse, with no back up, got out-muscled by Bradshaw who then found the bottom corner of the net with a perfectly placed shot.
Half time 0 – 2
Wrington Redhill started the 2nd half like a team that had received a ‘talking to’ from Manager Scott Campbell at half time and were looking much brighter from the off. Cam and Lew Milkins along with Jake Marshman got their usual passing game going and full backs Holmes and Backhouse were marauding down their respective flanks but things just weren’t going their way. A turn and snap shot from Hutchings was brilliantly saved by Edwards and from the resulting corner a powerful goal bound header from Skuse was blocked by a defender who knew little about it. Soon after Marshman’s through ball should have put Harrison Campbell clean through but he was taken out just outside the box by Burnham’s captain Russell Holley who ended up in the sin bin after a chat with the ref. Corner after corner came and went as Wrington Redhill searched for a goal to put the visitors under some pressure without success. Onewildly miss-hit shot from Jenson Holmes is still in the top of a tree behind the goal (according to one, recently developed, agelast supporter it ricocheted there off the bottom of Uranus). For all their efforts Wrington Redhill ended up losing this entertaining game.
Supporters man of the match Cam Milkins. Knocked around, pushed and shoved all afternoon but continued to be a thorn in the Burnham flesh.
