Glastonbury 1 Wrington Redhill 1
If ever there was a game that could have gone either way this was it. As a boisterous set of supporters from both sides exchanged banter from the pergola like shelter down the side of the pitch a frantic 1st half went on without the visitors reaching their usual rhythm. Glastonbury looked the stronger of the teams as an Andy Martin free kick was glanced goalward by Dyer but straight into the arms of Hannah in the visitors goal. At the other end Jack Hutchings and Harrison Campbell weren’t looking as dangerous as they have recently and were limited to long range efforts. Glastonbury took the lead after half an hour when Sam Mullins broke free through the left and drew the keeper before squaring the ball to Quirke to slot into the empty net.
half time 1 – 0
Wrington Redhill started the 2nd half in a more determined mood and Cam and Lew Milkins with Josh Oliver started to take charge of things. Mid-way through the half the equaliser came after some Marshman magic. He was surrounded when he got the ball, like the filling in a vol-au-vent but he broke free and scampered into the box and as keeper Lamb came out to him he slipped the ball to Can Milkins to finish off sharply as the tackles flew in. From here on there were chances at both ends. Glastonbury’s lively centre forward Cameron Nicholson was put through twice, the 1st time the advancing Hannah forced him wide and his shot was off target and just after that in a carbon copy move his accurate shot was spectacularly cleared off the line by a flying full back in the shape of Jenson Backhouse. Wrington Redhill had chances to win it as well, once when Jake Marshman looked sure to score but his shot was brilliantly saved by Lamb and once again when Lew Milkins was put through nipped the ball past the advancing keeper and watched as it bobbled agonisingly wide. This robust, firm but fair, game was summed up perfectly by the banter taking place between visiting defenders Berry and Skuse and a section of the home supporters. At the end of the game it was hand shakes and back slapping all round as the points were shared and Berry was invited out for a Tandoori by the Glastonbury faithfull.
