Wrington Redhill v Clutton.

Wrington opened their home campaign on ‘Vice Presidents and Sponsors Day’ and came away with a hard-fought win over Clutton.

In a first half of few chances Liam Knight went closest when his shot was well saved by Porter in the Clutton goal. On the stroke of half time Simon Rigg had a gold-bound effort deflected wide.

The second half kicked off and on 50 minutes Knight had a fierce shot tipped over the bar by Porter.

Four minutes later a nasty clash of heads meant that Cluttons’ Paul Chaffey was forced from the field and having used all their subs Clutton were down to 10 men.

This gave Wrington the advantage and 8 minutes later they took the lead. A long ball was played up to Cheeseman who laid the ball back superbly to Lee White who ‘coming on to the ball’ from all of 20 yards lashed and unstoppable shot into the roof of the net. 1-0

Clutton pushed hard for an equaliser and two late saves by Gary Clarke were needed to secure the three points.

Manager Smith said. ‘ In truth not one our best performances but if you play averagely and win that must bode well for the future. After saying that I must say ‘Whiteys’ goal was a thing of beauty. A special mention should go to 16 year old Olly Hubbard who made his first team debut and didn’t look out of place’.
