Stockwood Wanderers 2 Wrington Redhill 1

Manager Leigh White had to throw assistant Sam Clements into action as both his regular goalkeepers were missing for this cup clash. Wrington Redhill started much the brighter and most of the opening 20 minutes was spent in the Stockwood half. That said they didn’t really test Richard Guest in goal for Stockwood until they went ahead. Ben Sheppard and Simon Hewish combined well on the right hand side and Hewish threaded a clever pass through to Callum Vickery who ran with the ball before smashing it in off the near post. The visitors them seemed to sit back allowing Stockwood a 10 minute spell of domination. A mistake by Briggs allowed Stockwood’s Conrad Britton a run on goal but he was caught and tackled by Ethan Johnson before he could get his shot away.
The second half was only seconds old when Stockwood’s Danon Dagwood broke down the right easily evading a tackle from Sheppard before he crossed to Chisholm who, when Ollie Clements closed him down, fell dramatically with  and the referee awarded a penalty. Chisholm took a good penalty sending Clements the wrong way from the spot. Both teams had half chances but the 2nd half was pretty evenly contested, Jake Horton looked lively when he replaced Vickery but neither team created much until the dramatic turning point. Wrington Redhill were awarded a penalty when Ethan Williams was shoved over in the area. He collected the ball and placed it confidently on the spot, after all he’d blasted his last penalty into the roof of the net so of course he was the man for the job. He seemed to be caught in two minds and his stuttering run up resulted in him dinking it gently into the goalkeeper’s arms!
To add insult to injury Stockwood scored from the keeper’s clearance, his punt downfield eventually fell to Wrington Redhill’s Sheppard but his misplaced pass was intercepted by Chisholm who exchanged passes with Anton Williams before Williams shot from just inside the box to put the home team in front with 10 minutes left on the clock. The visitors huffed and puffed but never really created much and the game ended with the score at 2 – 1
